Age calculator: your age in years, months and days
Calculate your calendar age on today's date, a past date or a future date. The dashboard shows completed years, months and days, an hours–minutes–seconds counter, your next birthday, total elapsed days and a comparison between two dates of birth.
How to use the age analytics calculator
- Enter your date of birth. A name and time of birth are optional; an omitted birth time means midnight.
- Choose the reference date. Today uses your device's current local clock. Other dates use midnight at the start of the selected date.
- Select Calculate Full Age Analytics. For a live result, keep the real-time counter on and use today's date.
- Open the metric cards to see additional details. Choose Compare 2 Ages to enter another date of birth.
- Copy the summary, share it, print the report or download a 1080 × 1920 PNG birthday story card.
How calendar age is calculated
The calculator counts completed birthday anniversaries, then completed calendar months after the latest anniversary, then the remaining days, hours, minutes and seconds. It uses each actual month's length. It never assumes that a calendar month has thirty days.
If an anniversary or monthly anchor falls on a day missing from its target month, the last day of that month is used. For example, 31 January to 28 February in a non-leap year is one calendar month. A 29 February birthday uses 28 February in a non-leap year and 29 February in a leap year. These are explicit calculation conventions; different conventions can produce a different month-and-day breakdown.
A year is a leap year if it is divisible by four, except century years must also be divisible by four hundred. Thus, 2000 is a leap year and 1900 is not.
Birth time, live ticking and time zones
Dates and times are interpreted as local civil time, using your device's clock for Today. Internally these calendar components are represented in UTC so a daylight-saving transition does not change the calendar-day count. This is a civil-time calculation, not a reconstruction of historical UTC instants: historical time-zone changes and leap seconds are not included. Without a birth time and birth time zone, a physically exact elapsed lifetime cannot be established.
For today's reference date, the live display refreshes every second from the device clock. It does not add a second blindly, so a background browser tab can catch up when reopened. Turning live ticking off freezes a fresh calculation at that moment. A past or future reference date stays fixed at 00:00. The reference moment cannot be earlier than the birth moment.
Total days and the birthday countdown
Total Days Lived is the number of completed 24-hour periods between the birth and reference moments: the millisecond difference divided by 86,400,000, rounded down. A supplied birth time therefore affects this value. Weeks are completed groups of seven days, with remaining days shown separately.
The birthday countdown measures calendar dates, independent of the birth time. It shows Today throughout the birthday date, then moves to the next year on the following day. For a past or future reference, the countdown begins at that chosen date. The weekday badge is calculated from the birthday date itself.
Birthday signs, milestones and fun facts
The Western zodiac uses the conventional date ranges for the twelve sun signs. Chinese zodiac animals and elements use the Chinese lunar year through the browser's built-in calendar support, so births before Lunar New Year are assigned to the preceding lunar year. This feature is available for birth years 1900–2100; unsupported dates or browsers are labelled rather than given a guessed sign. These traditional classifications are for general interest.
The milestone bar shows progress through the current block of 1,000 elapsed days. Open that card to see the next milestone date and total elapsed seconds.
Heartbeats are illustrative estimates: elapsed fractional days × 24 × 60 × 80, assuming 80 beats per minute. Estimated sleep is elapsed fractional years × 8 ÷ 24, using 365.2425 days per year for this estimate only. Neither figure measures your actual heart rate or sleep.
Frequently asked questions
Can I calculate an age on a future date?
Yes. Select a future reference date or choose Next New Year, Next Birthday or +1 Year. Next New Year and Next Birthday are based on today; +1 Year advances the selected reference by one calendar year. Supported input years range from 0001 to 9998.
Why does a result with birth time differ by one day?
A full day has not elapsed until the reference clock reaches the birth time. For a fixed reference at midnight, a later birth time can leave one fewer completed day than a dates-only calculation.
Does the birth date itself count as day one?
No. The tool measures elapsed time. Identical birth and reference moments give zero; one complete day later gives one day.
How does Compare 2 Ages work?
Enter both dates of birth and calculate. The comparison shows each person's calendar age and the gap between their birth dates, including total days. Comparison uses dates only, regardless of the optional birth time used by the main age dashboard.
Is my date of birth uploaded or saved?
The calculator code processes your input in your browser without sending it to a calculation service. Save on this device stores the first person's name, date of birth and optional time in browser storage. It is off by default. Unticking it or choosing Reset removes this saved entry. Sharing, copying and downloading include the calculated personal details when you request those actions.
Why is the live counter not advancing?
It only advances when live ticking is enabled and the calculation uses today's reference date. Browsers can pause timer callbacks in background tabs; the next refresh reads the current device clock. Past and future reference dates remain fixed.
What does the PNG download contain?
A portrait birthday card containing your optional name, calendar age, time remainder, next birthday, total days and birth signs. The file is 1080 × 1920 pixels, suitable for a story image. No external image or font service is needed.
Can I use this for an official eligibility decision?
Use the result as a calendar reference. Check the relevant organisation's specified cut-off date and leap-birthday convention for official eligibility decisions.
